Pickup before removal.
Initial removal.  Note bent mounting tab on the right, put back straight in pics further below.  Note deteriorated and dried-out rubber suspension washers.  These washers used to be fat and provided the backpressure for the pickup to be adjusted closer or farther from the strings.  Rubber keeps the pickup isolated from body top vibrations, phase cancelation, noise, etc.
Since the pickup lead is not going to be removed, the body must be protected from work cleaning the pickup.
Someone in the past cleaned up the top of the pickup without removing it, but not where it could not be reached while installed.  Suspension washere removed here.
Places that couldn't be reached were pretty raunchy.
But nothing some careful rubbing wouldn't make right.
And the more you rub the nicer it becomes.
Screws cleaned up and reinstalled so they don't grow legs and walk off somewhere.
