Gluing loose sections of the cases top, bottom and sides panels and worn out batting. The batting is taped back away from the joint and the joint glued with 'Titebond II' exterior white glue.that dries clear.
Carpenter wedges are great tools as the photos will show.
The bean can holds water, the upside down tuna can a pallet for the glue that is applied down into even the smallest spaces with fine artist brushes.
Wax paper is used to keep glue that's set-up from sticking where we don't want it to stick, as we'll see in photos.
Wedges, weights, clamps and large rubber bands are used to get joints as flat and square as possible. Notice the wax paper wrap to keep the partially set up glue from sticking to the wedges.
2 wedges opposite each other make a nice flat span across this joint that is waiting for the glue to soak into the fibreboard and tack-up stiff before untaping the batting flaps to overlap the joint while it still has some tack to receive fresh glue for the batting.
Notice the several devices used to form and hold the joints in place properly while waiting for a proper tack upon which to glue the batting overlaps.
Notice the selection of weighted wood blocks that press the case floor down even with the back panel. The same processes are used to make the top panels fit nicely. The oxide patina on the brass latches can be rubbed off or reduced to a desired patina, by using 1 finger or the round tip of a popsicle stick to rub it off with emory cloth, ...care given to not abrade the cases surrounding finish.
