There is no accounting of all the Americans who have died back home as a result of their Service in vietnam. It can only be closely estimated that: 58,169 Americans were killed while in the vietnam debacle. That is about 10 million pounds of American youth and promise. That is 19 times more than all the people who died from the " 9-11" events. 38,197 were U.S. Army. 4,903 were Helicopter Crewmembers. There is no accounting of how many Vietnamese died in the war. South Vietnamese KIA's are estimated at 200,000. All Vietnamese Fighters are due respect for the ultimate sacrifices they made against great odds. The Vietnamese People also suffered beyond any ability to calculate it. 22 years now since the war ceased, the Vietnamese People still suffer war wounds beyond any ability to calculate it. Orphaned Amerasians, poison and birth defects were left all over the country. History has yet to adequately report the CIA's war in Laos and Cambodia and their opium and heroin cartel there trafficing via the vietnam war machinery.

Many people are still not aware that the vietnam war was a logistical support and distribution arm and distraction for opium and heroin operations in Laos and to some degree Cambodia, with complicit blessings from factions in our gov't right-wing heirarchies. There are concerning indications that the Afghanistan war is entangled in opium/heroin, oil and gas positioning, and American Civil Rights politics similar to the vietnam / Laos war. A pointed adage: Trace the money.
You can CLICK HERE to investigate much more about these contentions and the trails to research for your own assurances, ... and forums to discuss same; But be forewarned, it is a disturbing picture of some very rotten factions in our government that some folks might be at better Peace not having to think about. Peace is better for some folks that have already fought the battles. |

"Let me assure you, that we don't have combat troops in Laos and Cambodia" President Richard Nixon to the American People, 1969; At the very moment that I and more than 25 other aircraft were crossing the Ho Chi Minh Trail taking U.S. CIA / SOG troops into Cambodia. |
Now Gentlemen, a helicopter cannot be filled to the ceiling with pallets of beer. The rotor tach and N1 are the gauges on the Huey that will tell you how many cases of beer you can haul from the take-off position you are at. |
Helicopters everywhere, as far as the eye can see; And one finds an instant not quite off the ground yet, to beat itself to death and scare / embarrass the bajeezus out of it's pilot. |
OK Guys, let's get this done; We still gotta get beer for the camp before the PX closes. |

In my opinion, it is gravely important that we realize what our government and it's factions are doing, especially in times of war, lest WE allow our sons and daughters to be given up for naught. What ill human natures in our gov't have done in the past, will SURELY occur again when / if WE allow it. |
A helicopter's mechanical nature is to seize every opportunity to crash. This TH55 we trained in is surely thinking hard about it while the pilot is out taking leak. |
Hueys in vietnam searching for an opportunity to crash ... while their Pilots are doing one helluva fine job preventing that from happening. |
A gov't will be only as ludicrous as it's citizens allow it to be by their cooperation, silence, apathy, acquiescence, etc.

There are plenty of great viet Vet websites that present the better things we prefer to remember about the vietnam war. I think it important to keep the other side of the coin clean in our memory as well, lest our experiences and lessons become no more valuable than the rotten politics that got us into that mess in the first place. Much to my life's disappointment, it appears axiom that times will come when we have no choice but to fight; But it is equally axiom that our gov't WILL send our Soldiers into grave harm when it is not neccessary, BUT ONLY AS MUCH AS WE ALLOW IT. Our gov't responds to 2 main key elements: (1) The voice of Money, and (2) the OUTSPOKEN AND COMMITTED voice of a critical mass of people, wherein only the loudest voices for the longest time in the most creative manners can / will be addressed against contrary status qou politics. We simply cannot expect the lessons of vietnam to be heeded unless we dedicate some of our life to perpetuate those lessons. |
