Spots glued are clamped with a wax paper barrier used as a mold release.

When "tolex" covering gets torn or worn through, then water / moisture can be absorbed into the fibreboard (fancy name for cardboard) and expand and distort the fibreboard.  Resoaking it with water based carpenters glue suitable for exterior use, and then teasing the "tolex" onto the wet glue, and then clamping it to it's original form, ....will produce a nice repair done in the same manner as a luggage repair shop would, short of painting the repair with carefully mixed / matched vinyl upholstery paint to camouflage the repair.
