Inspection and Work Progress

Page 11  ---  Ongoing work, notes and suggestions:
Diapers are used here in the "same" manner as Page 10's paper towels.  Any soft rags of appropriate thickness will work.  Always make sure rags are washed with simple laundry detergent and rinsed well;  Fabric softeners, perfumes, etc. should not be used if a rag is going to be left on a guitar for extended periods of time.
This is a large, standard diaper without extra padding;  Wrapped around the butt of the guitar.  A great towel for every guitar in it's case;  Wipe sweaty hands, wipe playing moisture & salts off of strings, bridge, metals etc;  Misting such a "towel" with Ace Lub-E drives moisture off of the surface being wiped and into the "towel's" fibres;  And helps maintain a very tiny film of oil on strings and metal parts it's laying over, and helps finishes maintain their oils over extended periods of time a guitar is owned / played / etc.
These are diapers with extra padding down their center to collect and hold babies' "liquids".  They afford extra padding when needed / desired.

Peek-a-boo;  Everybody clear of each other in there?  For shipping a guitar, additional support should also be put under the neck in the space shown here, towards the headstock end of the neck, taking strain off of the headstock and neck.  Rolled up paper towels, rags or diapers work well.  NEVER use newspaper inside a guitar case by itself because the ink can and often does transfer to some things it comes in contact with;  But wadded-up and / or folded newspaper can be put into plastic bags such as zip locs or plastic grocery bags;  Grocery bags are highly bio degradable and thus not suitable except for SHORT TERM shipping;  And any other plastic such as zip loc bags should not be used for extended period storage because longer term exposure of plastics upon some finishes and other plastics, can cause problems and damage.  Best to think carefully about short and long term chemical reactions upon guitars and inside their cases.
