Regal Lap Steel Recording King model w / nice plush lined composite case ------- oOo ------- PREVIOUS OWNER'S REPORT: Vintage "Recording King" lap steel by Regal. One corner of the metal electrical componant (pickup mounting plate) is missing, as well as all four screws, probably doesn not work, no way of testing. One tuner knob is missing. Neck is Straight, all other parts intact. Comes with original case, round steel bar, and two picks. ------- oOo ------- DENNY'S NOTES: This steel's faux grain finish caught my attention; Hip & cool back in those times; Hip & cool today IMHO! This Steel is a good example of old deco faux wood finishes. The top of the body is a nice REAL and well flamed wood, probably maple. The sides and back are faux deco "flames" painted with an airbrush. These blatantly faux deco paintjobs were popular for instruments, furniture, radios, etc. in this Steel's days; Done by spraying a light wooden color as a color base and then using an airbrush to spray darker randon streaks across the lighter base. A fully aged "slab" of excellent old wood and deco, ready as is or for any custom treatments. The previous owner didn't know anything about guitars; His report above about not working is not correct; He was just trying to be honest. There is no problem with the pickup nor circuit. One corner screw hole on the potted metal plate is broken due to overtightening the screw. The plate would have been secure if screws were put into the existing holes! I will repair the pickup plate corner at no charge if not already done when someone desires this steel; Or for essence of time someone might want to do that rather simple work themselves if it's not already done. A reasonably able craftsman could repair the pickup plate corner quite easily and well using JB Weld or pot metal powder bound with epoxy, and then sanded to conform to the plate corner. Even washers size-matched to the radius of the plates corners would cosmetically secure the plate and the broken corners noticeable only upon close inspection. Looks "bad" in the picture, but actually a very minor issue. The case is a quite nice, plush lined case made from a composite material much thicker than the common GEIB fiberboard cases. |
