Upon receipt, the most gracious new Owner reported:
(Editing by Denny for description accuracy, is in italics):

(To whom it may concern):

DANELECTRO 59-DC reissue.  Dealer prototype with Black Burst gloss finish.  New old stock in original box.  Included hangtag, blank warranty card, and Danelectro dealer brochure.  In (full / true NOS) condition.

This is a first generation reissue, made in Korea in1998/99, not one of the later ones made in Indonesia or China.  It has vintage-style white button "D" tuners, and its neck and headstock match the Black Burst body color.  These features are consistent with the original DC's.  Subsequent runs of the DC reissues have a natural neck and headstock.

This 59-DC is a R&D prototype offered to Danelectro dealers to gauge their (and market) reaction to the Black Burst finish.  The high-gloss Black Burst finish was used for the original 56-U2 reissues, but aside from these prototypes, it was never rolled out for the DC model (before natural headstocks and necks became the norm to save manufacturing expenditure).  The finish is flawless and the hardware and electronics are 100%.

Danelectro sent this 59-DC to Denny Turner, owner of Denny's Guitars in Hawaii.  Denny is a recognized Danelectro expert.  He is acknowledged on page 14 of 'Neptune Bound', the recently-published "Ultimate Danelectro Guitar Guide" (by Danelectro expert Doug Tulloch who) thanked Denny for his contributions.  For the past decade Denny has stored this unused 59-DC (in VCI gas) in its original packaging.

I purchased this in April from Denny and he painstakingly set it up according to (my playing style preferences) specs.  It is the best sounding Danelectro I've ever played (and that's saying something!) and it looks sparkling new.  Aside from testing it upon arrival from Hawaii, this 59-DC has gone unplayed and has been stored in its original box in a climate controlled environment.  It's never been exposed to cigarettes, smoke, or tobacco.  It's as clean and fresh as the day it was built.
